Why the doctor asks about sleep, food and mood for a skin complaint
Questions that seem unrelated to the skin, and the reason a case is taken as a whole rather than complaint by complaint.
People come in for a patch on the arm and get asked how they sleep. It sounds beside the point. It is not, and here is why those questions come up.
The complaint sits inside a routine
Itching that keeps someone awake, or that flares only in a particular season, at a particular workplace, or after a particular food, tells the doctor something a photograph of the patch cannot.
Sleep, appetite and how someone has been feeling in general are simply more of the same information. They are asked about for the pattern, not to attribute blame to anything.
One case, not several
Someone may mention a skin patch, poor sleep and an unsettled stomach as three separate things. In the consultation they are noted as one case with a history, in the order they appeared.
That is why the questions wander. It is also why the first visit takes half an hour rather than five minutes.

How the visit works
A first consultation takes between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on how much history there is to go through. Follow up visits are shorter and are usually 10 to 20 days apart. The consultation fee is Rs 600. Appointments are arranged by phone or on WhatsApp during clinic hours; there is no online booking.
Come with whatever you remember. Nothing you mention is too small to be worth saying.
