What happens in a first visit

The 15 to 30 minutes, the questions that get asked, and why the history matters more than today's symptom.

People often arrive expecting a short look at the affected part and a prescription. A first visit at the clinic is longer than that and is mostly spent talking. This is what the time is actually used for.

Most of it is listening

The doctor asks when the trouble first started, how it has changed since, and what has already been tried. That often takes longer than describing the complaint as it is today, and it is the part that shapes what comes next.

There is no fixed script. If something you mention in passing turns out to matter, the conversation follows it.

Why the history matters more than the current symptom

Two people can walk in with the same complaint and describe two completely different courses: one that began after an illness, one that has been there since childhood; one that eases in summer, one that worsens. Those differences are what separate the cases.

A complaint that has been coming and going for years carries a pattern. Finding the pattern is the point of the first visit.

What to bring

Nothing is required. If you happen to have earlier prescriptions or test reports, bring them; they save time. A rough note of when the trouble started and what makes it better or worse is more useful than any report.

How the visit works

A first consultation takes between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on how much history there is to go through. Follow up visits are shorter and are usually 10 to 20 days apart. The consultation fee is Rs 600. Appointments are arranged by phone or on WhatsApp during clinic hours; there is no online booking.

If you are unsure whether your complaint is something to bring in, a phone call during clinic hours is enough to ask.
